The Beginning of Adoptd Clothing: A Moment of Faith at IKEA

Adoptd Clothing was born in an unexpected place—standing inside an IKEA kitchen showroom with my daughter.

As we walked through display after display of beautiful kitchens, I felt discouraged. Funds were low, and they always had been. In that moment, I quietly said to God,
“Why can’t I have one of these kitchens?”

The response I felt in my spirit changed everything:

“You can have it all.”

That moment planted the seed for what would later become Adoptd Clothing.

Praying for Financial Provision and God’s Direction

After that day, I began praying intentionally, asking God how I could make more money. I had previously tried starting a Christian Etsy business, but it never really took off—whether from a lack of direction, giving up too easily, or simply because it wasn’t the right time.

This time felt different. I felt led to step out in faith again.

Starting a Christian Apparel Business Through Divine Timing

I sat down with a close friend and shared that I was thinking about launching a Christian apparel business. Without knowing that her husband had once owned a T-shirt printing business, she immediately said:

“I’m actually selling a press and some stock—you can buy it from me.”

She offered it to me at an incredible price. That was no coincidence.

Why the Name “Adoptd” Was God-Inspired

Adoptd wasn’t a name I would have chosen myself. The business I purchased the press from was already called Adoptd, and much of the stock already carried the branding.

I considered changing it—but God prompted me to keep the name.

I was then led to Romans 8:15, which speaks about being adopted into God’s family. Suddenly, the name made perfect sense. Adoptd reflected identity, belonging, and sonship—not just fashion. Find out more about the about the meaning of the name here!

More Than a Clothing Brand: Sharing God’s Word Through Apparel

Adoptd Clothing became more than just a way to earn extra income. It felt like a double blessing.

Not only could I provide for my family, but I could also help spread God’s Word through faith-based clothing. Each hoodie or shirt could spark conversations with non-believers, opening doors for questions like, “What does that mean?”

Clothing became a tool for connection and testimony.

From Women’s Conferences to Building an Online Christian Store

I started by setting up a stand at a women’s conference, and it went really well. However, I knew I couldn’t rely solely on conferences—I needed to take Adoptd online.

Once again, God placed the right person in my path.

God’s Provision Through Unexpected Relationships

In my main job as a volunteer coordinator, a man walked in one day to apply to volunteer. As we talked, he mentioned that he had previously built websites.

I asked if he could help me with Adoptd’s website—and he agreed.

As we met regularly and discussed plans, he built the Adoptd Clothing website. During one of our meetings, I asked him about his faith.

He shared that he had been baptised and was a born-again Christian in his 20s but hadn’t attended church much in the past 30 years.

I invited him to church.

Today, he is striving toward Christ again.

If that is the only fruit that ever comes from Adoptd Clothing, then it has already been worth it.

Trusting God When Building a Faith-Based Business Is Hard

So what’s next?

I keep going.

Even when it feels like the business isn’t working—which happens often—I trust God and continue moving forward. I believe this is what He has called me to do in this season.

Every time I feel like quitting, I return to this verse:

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this.”
Psalm 37:5

This verse reminds me to commit my daily life to God. Trusting Him means believing He will guide my steps and bless the path He has set before me.

The Mission Behind Adoptd Clothing

Adoptd Clothing isn’t just something I started.

It’s something God entrusted to me.

And I will continue to walk forward in faith—one step, one prayer, and one hoodie at a time.

Launching Adopted Clothing has been one of the biggest steps of my life. It required me to put myself out there in a way I never had before, and that vulnerability was uncomfortable. I had never done anything like this, and stepping into the unknown brought a lot of fear with it.
